Florida decks the halls…

Thinking of Christmas in Florida? You’re in the right place. There’s no place in America quite like Florida for Christmas. It’s warm, sunny and there’s always room in the sand for one more. So come on over to my neighborhood where we replace egg nog with margaritas and shrimp cocktail with stone crab. This is Florida living. Flip flops welcome.  Continue reading

This past weekend I grabbed a turkey leg and joined King Edward III for the 10th anniversary of the Sarasota Medieval Fair. The event runs every weekend through November 24th and is showcasing a new line-up of nationally renowned acts for each weekend.

Maybe it’s the hand-crafting artisans or the gathering of fairies and knights all in the same place, but I love Medieval Festivals! The Sarasota Medieval Fair has a great line up for this year: Continue reading

As a zombie enthusiast, I couldn’t help but to add this to the Monster a Day series. I had no idea when I began to research “zombie events” just how many happenings I would come upon. Behold, a little list of links to even bigger lists of Zombie events for the rest of 2013. Enjoy! Continue reading

A Haunting at St. Francis, St. Augustine’s Oldest Inn

“Is the Inn haunted”, I asked, having no idea of the Inn’s paranormal history at this point. “Well, yes. We have a young servant girl that is said to live here, her name is Lily. We have had a lot of investigators stay in her room, Miss Lily’s Room.” My eyes grew wide, always having been fascinated by the paranormal. The legend of the St. Francis Inn invited my curiosity. Everyone heading to Orlando, Florida always wants to know which dinner show is better,  Medieval Times or Arabian Nights? Well, the Fairytlale Traveler went to both to find out the real deal on the food, the show and where the kids will have the most fun (let’s be honest, it’s about the kids…maybe).

There are two heavy towering doors that mark the entrance into the Arabian Nights Dinner Show in Orlando, Florida where I was welcomed by the more-than-enthusiastic Andres, Marketing Director for the venue. I had just been to the Medieval Times Orlando Castle and was quite honestly unsure if this evening would fill the boots of the strapping metal-clad knights. Continue reading

I remember the first time I saw a banyan tree. Its wide trunk held these endless branches that seemed to grow right into the ground. My eyes were confused. I couldn’t tell where the tree started and where it began. It was everywhere! I bolted over to inspect this curious find. I had to get to the bottom of this…or the top, I still am not sure. Here you are, after years of denial, I am going to put it all out there.  Being a Florida resident has spoiled me.  There I said it.  Having been a regular guest at the Magic Kingdom since childhood I have become a bit of a brat when it comes to suffocating heat, cattle drives of sweaty tourists who have left all common courtesy at the parking lot, and waiting in lines upwards of two hours long.  Under no circumstances would I ever, ever, ever have braved the Magic Kingdom in June…EVER.  Except of course, for the love of blogging (you can thank me later).  I’ve done this before, the magic, the memories.  I’m telling you like it is, bottom line, all heartwarming moments aside.  Don’t do it.  However, since I did I will fill you in on the New Fantasyland so far.   Continue reading
